Aimco or Apartment Investment and Management Company is a publicly traded real estate investment trust. As of December 31, 2017, the company owned 182 apartment communities comprising 43,802 apartment units primarily in Atlanta, the San Francisco Bay Area, Boston, Chicago, Denver, the Washington metropolitan area, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, Philadelphia, San Diego, and Seattle.

The Company’s conventional real estate operations consisted of market-rate apartment communities with rents paid by the residents and included 130 apartment communities with 37,780 apartment homes, as of December 31, 2016. The Company’s Conventional segment consists of apartment communities it classifies as Conventional Same Store and Conventional Non-Same Store. As of December 31, 2016, the Company’s conventional portfolio consisted of 101 Conventional Same Store apartment communities with 30,893 apartment homes, and 29 Conventional Non-Same Store apartment communities with 6,887 apartment homes.
